Tonight we will be holding a Townhall with the 2020 Democratic Mayoral Candidates, and while it ‘sold out’ almost immediately, this will be held online at the YouTube link below. I was told audience members may submit questions via this link, but if there are any that you don’t feel are answered clearly, I’ll try to get to all of them via Twitter and this newsletter.
I’ve already had other candidates take ideas from my platform, and I welcome this — I would welcome it if they took the entire platform and ran with it because we need a unified vision without compromise. So, here is my opening statement for tonight. Mind you, I am a policy-nerd out on the streets doing what is needed — I don’t have the same skills and practice speaking in front of others that comes from showing up for 15-minute photo-ops and then leaving without speaking to anyone.
Opening Statement
Good evening and thank you for joining me tonight. My name is Clif Marsiglio, and I’m here to ask for your vote.
I am an unashamed progressive with high hopes for the future of Indianapolis. I believe in our city and its tight-knit communities. I am committed to working with you to strengthen our bonds.
By day, I am an educator. At night – an activist. In all aspects of my life, I fight for what I believe in, and I am not afraid to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves.
I am focused on the grassroots, and I am proud to say that I have never taken a $5000 check from any out-of-state interest group; I will never sell you out.
My priorities are mental health, re-envisioning public safety, and ending homelessness. As the saying goes, a rising tide lifts all. But only if we lift the most vulnerable first.
I am a boots-on-the-ground leader who believes in being in the trenches.
I am on the streets in areas I am told are “too dangerous.” I work directly with the people, putting in the hard work in neighborhoods our leaders will never see.
I work with people suffering from addiction and those who have overdosed. I have lost friends to substance abuse, and I never want to see another family member go through the same heart-wrenching losses I have.
As mayor, I will continue being an activist – the type of mayor you want to see in your city – not just during an election year.
With your support, we can build a better future – so please, join me in this fight to make Indianapolis a better place where everyone can thrive and be proud to call Indianapolis home.
Thank you.
Notes
Thank you for reading, and I will be posting more soon. Yard signs are going out. If you would like one, please let me know. I delivered a third of them this weekend. For the next batch, I will drop them off on your doorstops and message you as soon as I am about…three blocks away!!! I loved talking to all of you and getting to meet your neighbors while I did so! My campaign partners are telling me, “You can talk to people AS SOON AS YOU HAVE THE SIGNS ALL DELIVERED!!!” but my hands-on approach is why I’m doing this. Why should I be doing this for you if I am not doing this for you?
Again, THANK YOU, and I hope to hear from each and every one of you soon!
